Become a Volunteer!

The mission of the Humane Society of Cobb County is to promote

humane welfare and responsible animal guardianship through educational

community outreach, shelter, and spay/neuter programs.

The Humane Society of Cobb County is a charitable, humane animal welfare organization

founded in 1957.  With the assistance of dedicated, caring volunteers and generous supporters,

our programs continue to make a positive difference in the lives of innocent animals in need.

We appreciate your interest in volunteer opportunities at the Humane Society of Cobb County.

We are a no kill, non-profit organization.  We do not get any city, county or state funding.

The facility is run on donations, bequests, and grants and through fund raising efforts.

We house mainly cats, kittens, several exotic/pocket pets, and only a few dogs at a time which are always small breed.

All of our pets have been tested, vaccinated, microchipped and spayed/neutered before adoption.

Below you will find various activities that require volunteer time.

Please copy, paste and return the volunteer profile form at the end of this page and return it by email.

We will then notify you of the next orientation date.  These orientations last about 30-45 minutes.

You must attend an orientation prior to volunteering. We will do our best to accommodate your schedule.

We have orientations once a month generally on a Saturday at 10AM.

  • Please refrain from bringing children under the age of 18 with you to volunteer, or to orientation.
  • If you have a high interest in working hands on with dogs,

contact Cindy Ganus at Cobb County Animal Control 770-590-5621.  They house over 200 dogs.

Below is a list of areas that we need help in:

Cleaning & Maintenance:

9:30AM until 12PM is when our cleaning occurs, seven days a week.

We clean cat cages, groom, feed, water, wash dishes, do laundry, dust, sweep and exercise the special animals.

Help with yard work is also needed such as cutting the grass, pulling weeds, trimming hedges and watering plants.

Banks:

New banks can be placed in just about any business.

You can help us find new locations and change banks out on a regular basis. You could also pick up other banks,

count the money and deliver it back to us.  This is done 2-3 times a year.

Education Committee:

We always need help with these important programs.

Help us present educational programs to our youths in elementary schools, middle schools, day care centers,

girl/boy scouts troops and other youth organizations.  This is done on an as needed basis either at our location or theirs.

You would always be with an experienced volunteer or employee.

Fundraising Committee:

Creative? Energetic? Enthusiastic?  We’d love to hear your new ideas for fundraising and we need help with

our special annual fundraisers.  The golf tournament, yard sales, and silent auction are a few examples.

Office Volunteers:

Volunteers are needed at our facility to help answer phones, input information into the computer,

or help unite lost pets with their families.  You must be proficient in access and excel programs.

Experience in customer service or counseling is recommended. There is also paperwork, counseling, education

and interaction with potential adopters. These things are done Tuesday through Friday 12PM until 5PM.

Grooming, Socializing & Adoptions:

Our pets always enjoy company.  If you have time to spare, stop by to brush, groom and socialize our pets.

Tuesday through Friday from 12PM until 5PM is the best time.

Once you familiarize yourself with our pets you may help with adoptions on Saturdays from 12PM until 5PM.

This does not apply to community service, (court ordered).  You must call 770-428-9882 for information.

If you are under 18 years of age please look at our “how can I help” page. How can I Help

You can collect things to donate from this list.  You can also look at our kids section in order to get more ideas.  Youth Section
